“We are extremely proud to bring this honor to Naperville,” said Park District Executive Director Ray McGury. The Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies accredits a handful of park agencies each year that have completed a multi-step process involving a self-review by the agency, a site visit, and an evaluation and formal report by the Commission. Naperville is only the second park district in Illinois to earn this distinction and the 104th nationally accredited agency in the nation there are more than 10,000 recreation agencies in the United States. The decision was announced at the NRPA national conference in Atlanta following a formal hearing before the Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies (CAPRA). 2, 2011 Naperville Park District officials heard the good news for which they have been waiting for many months: the District has achieved national accreditation through the National Recreation and Parks Association (NRPA). Monti summed it up with the following list: 1) boosts memory 2) improves flexibility 3) reduces stress 4) strengthens your heart 5) helps diminish depression 6) improves balance, and 7) increases energy. Those who flock to the Zumba classes also reap health benefits. “The instructors keep you wanting more, and it feels like you are at a party, wedding, or social gathering. “Zumba is always changing and it is fun and inclusive,” explained Monti.
The Park District has seen Zumba classes expand over the past several years, especially the Zumba Gold class at Fort Hill Activity Center, which had to be moved from the studio to the gym to accommodate more participants. The Park District currently offers several types of Zumba classes: traditional Zumba for ages 16 and up, Zumba Gold with lower impact moves for ages 50 and up, Zumba Toning, adding strength training moves to the mix, and Zumba/Hip Hop, combining Zumba rhythms with the latest Hip Hop songs and moves. Inflexible and flexible, weak and strong, rhythmic and non-rhythmic. “The party is for anyone who wants to dance, whether they are experienced at Zumba or not. “Our Zumba teachers had the idea to host a dance party to bring the community together, both young and old, to enjoy the music, let go and dance as much as they can,” said Kim Monti, group fitness coordinator for the Naperville Park District.
